Garbage Disposal |Garbage Disposer | Food Waste Disposer

A garbage disposal is a kitchen appliance installed under the kitchen sink for the purpose of shredding food waste and particles into smaller pieces for smooth flow down the drain pipes. If you look under your kitchen sink, at the area between the the sink drain and the trap you can locate a garbage disposal if it is installed. A garbage disposal is also known as garbage disposer, food waste disposer, food waste disposal, waste disposal unit, garbarator or garburator, depending on geographical location and civilization.

Garbage Disposal Cleaning Tips | How to Clean & Freshen Your Garbage Disposal

Did you know that most smell emanating from your kitchen sink is from the garbage disposal? Garbage disposals used with optimal maintenance should self-clean and run at peek performance. However, not everyone knows the dos and don't of a garbage disposal, especially the little children at home. Moreover, it's not uncommon for food particles and debris to get trapped in the walls of your garbage disposal which over time result in mold and odor-causing bacteria. Now, you don't want any unpleasant nauseating smell in your kitchen so make sure to clean your garbage disposal at least every weekend using our garbage disposal cleaning tips. Click drain cleaning tutorial to learn how you can clean your garbage disposal and get rid of odor from your drain lines. The tutorial is for general drain cleaning and getting rid of drain odor so substitute "drain" with "garbage disposal" for the purpose of clarity. Example "Pour down the drain" in the tutorial should be replaced with "pour down the garbage disposal" or "pour down the kitchen sink drain" for proper understanding of the procedure

Sewage Backing up Into House or Yard

Question
BACKGROUND: We have a septic system. Sewage was flowing out into the yard. The clean out was found to have the cap missing, which was replaced. Once the cap was replaced, the sewage began to back up in the house. When we would wash dishes, sewage would bubble up into the bathtub, the toilet would not go down, the bathroom sink would drain slow and gurgle. First plumber ran snake, said it was not clogged by us, but that the piping was laid wrong. Next plumber dug up where piping runs to septic tank, said there was grease clogging, also another fitting (? I don't really know proper terminology) was broke off--so said it wasn't draining right.
QUESTION: How long would it take for grease to clog system enough to back it up? We have lived here two years and never put grease down drain. Could this be from previous inhabitants? System has not been serviced since we've lived here, could that be problem? thank you

Answer
Sewage backing up into your yard or house does not have a direct relationship with "how long it would take for grease to clog system enough to back it up". To determine what's responsible for the blockage, your "Distribution Box" (D-box) needs to be dug up. If the distribution box is dry, then know that the blockage is in the outlet baffle. And if the Distribution Box is flooded, then the out-going pipe/pipes connected from the Distribution Box and leading to the...
